Some of the city's most important sights are within a short distance: the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew), inside the Grand Palace complex, is 700 m away, and the Grand Palace itself is 800 m. Wat Arun, the riverside temple with the tall prang, is 1.3 km away on the other side of the Chao Phraya river, while Wat Suthat and the Giant Swing are a few hundred metres away and Trok Mor Morning Market is very close.

Public transport is close, with Sam Yot MRT station 600 m away, and Suvarnabhumi Airport is 28 km away. Wang Burapha train station is also nearby, so the old city and the rest of the network are easy to combine in one day. A good day starts at the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, continues across the river to Wat Arun, and ends on Khaosan Road.
