Victora Hostel

Air conditioning is standard in every room at Victora Hostel. The rooms include a double with a courtyard view, two deluxe rooms of 25 m² and a 22 m² superior double that sleeps up to four guests, and most rooms have a private bathroom with a shower.

Blackout curtains are fitted in the deluxe queen room and the superior double, and the two deluxe rooms have satellite and cable channels on the TV.

Victora Hostel has an elevator and 24-hour security, and its public areas are air-conditioned. Lockers, luggage storage, safety deposit boxes, daily housekeeping and a laundry service are available, and the business centre has Xerox and fax facilities.

Victora Hostel is in the Khaosan area of Bangkok's old city, a neighbourhood of narrow streets, guesthouses and old shophouses that has long attracted budget travellers. In the evening the streets fill with street-food stalls, small bars and stalls selling clothes, bags and souvenirs, and the area feels very different from the glass towers of the business districts. It works well for travellers who want to move on foot between temples, markets and the river.

The Grand Palace is 1.6 km away, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Phra Kaew, is within its grounds. Across the Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun stands on the Thonburi bank, with its tall prang rising above the water. The Phra Arthit ferry pier, 850 m away, puts you on the river by boat, and Sam Yot MRT station, 1.5 km away, connects you to the metro network. Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of Bangkok's largest markets, is 6.7 km away.

A full day can start at the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, continue by boat or across the river to Wat Arun, and finish in the evening on Khao San Road, 500 m from Victora Hostel. Jim Thompson House, a teak house museum, and the shopping centres around Siam are further away, so they make a separate outing.
