VX The Fifty Hostel

All the rooms at VX The Fifty Hostel have air conditioning, and their sizes run from 14 to 36 m². They range from bunk-bed rooms and dormitory rooms with double beds to double and twin rooms with a city view, plus a deluxe room for up to five guests. The 36 m² bunk and dormitory rooms and the 14 m² twin and double rooms use shared bathrooms, while the 17 m² deluxe double has a private one.

Some rooms sleep up to five guests, and the bedding ranges from single and double beds to bunk beds. All of them have free Wi-Fi, and the rooms with a city view also have a flat-screen TV and satellite channels.

The hostel has a shared lounge and TV area, a game room, a garden, a terrace and a rooftop area, plus a shared kitchen. Laundry and ironing services are available, along with luggage storage, lockers and safety deposit boxes, and daily housekeeping is provided.

Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms. A family room is offered, non-smoking rooms are available, and there is a smoking area, while English, Chinese (Mandarin) and Thai are spoken there. Bicycle parking is also on site. A baby cot or crib can be provided on request, and the garden, terrace and rooftop area give guests outdoor space to spend time in during the day, whatever the weather.

VX The Fifty Hostel stands on Sukhumvit Soi 50, a side lane off Sukhumvit Road in the Klongtoey district of Bangkok. The area is a neighbourhood of shophouses, apartment blocks and local markets rather than a string of tourist sights, so it shows a more everyday side of the city than the old town and the river. Small local shops and food stalls line many of the side lanes around the hostel, so daily needs are close at hand. The Skytrain is the simplest way to move around from here.

On Nut BTS Station is 600 m from the hostel and gives access to the Sukhumvit Line of the Skytrain, which runs to the shopping district of Siam. Siam Paragon, the large shopping centre in Siam, is 8.1 km away, and Jim Thompson House, the former home of the American silk entrepreneur, is a museum set in a garden. The Grand Palace, the old royal complex, is 12.3 km away, and Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is 16.8 km away.

A good day could start on the Skytrain to Siam for shopping, then continue to Jim Thompson House. The Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the largest markets in the city, makes a separate day out.
