The Companion Hostel

The hostel has mixed dormitories and private rooms. Dormitory beds range from a single bunk in an eight-bed room to a 32 m² room with four bunk beds. Private rooms include a 32 m² room with an en suite bathroom and a Standard room with a city view.

Depending on the room, you will find a hair dryer, an electric kettle, toiletries and towels, and some rooms have a kitchenette with kitchenware. Bathrooms are private in some rooms and shared in others.

Guests can use a garden, a library, a game room with a dart board and a fitness centre, and tours and ticket services are available. Laundry service, luggage storage, daily housekeeping and a concierge are also offered.

Breakfast is offered in Asian and continental styles, and there are restaurants and a shared kitchen on site. Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms, free parking is on site, and an airport transfer and shuttle service are offered. Guests can also use satellite channels, books, DVDs and music for children, and a video game console. The hostel also has a family room, and guests can use a kitchen for their own meals.

The Companion Hostel stands in Thonburi, the western side of the Chao Phraya river opposite the old city of Bangkok, in the Klong San district. It is a quieter, residential part of the city, with local streets and small temples, and the old city lies across the river. Cash machines are close by, and so is a hospital. The Krung Thon Buri BTS station is also in the neighbourhood.

The Wongwian Yai BTS station is 450 m away, a Skytrain stop that takes you into central Bangkok. Wat Arun is 2.4 km away on the riverbank, a temple with a tall, tiered prang, and the Grand Palace, across the river, is 3 km away and houses the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Asiatique The Riverfront, a riverside shopping and dining complex, is 2.3 km away, and Khaosan Road, the backpacker street, is 4 km away.

A good first day is to start at Wat Arun, the nearest of the big temples, then move on to the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and finish with dinner at Asiatique by the river. Khaosan Road is a good choice for a later evening, when the street stalls and bars are busy.
