The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) lie in the old royal quarter, with the Grand Palace 1.2 km away. Wat Arun, the temple known for its tall prang, stands on the Thonburi bank of the river and is reached by a river crossing. The Jim Thompson House, a museum of Thai silk set in traditional teak houses, is a little farther away.

A good day here starts at the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, continues across the river to Wat Arun, and ends in the lanes around Khaosan Road. For the larger markets, the Chatuchak Weekend Market is a longer trip, best planned for another day. Don Mueang International Airport is 20.8 km away and Suvarnabhumi Airport is 28.8 km away.
