Location & what to see
Ao Nang is a beach town on the Andaman coast of Krabi province, where a sandy bay faces the sea and a seafront road runs past cafés, tour offices and small hotels. Beyond the bay, the limestone cliffs of the Railay peninsula rise above the water, and the coast road links the town with the rest of Krabi. Quieter streets run behind the seafront, lined with guesthouses and small shops.
Ao Nang Beach is 750 m away, and the Ao Nang Night Market, 1.3 km away, sells street food and souvenirs in the evening. Railay Beach, 2.4 km away, can only be reached by boat and has limestone cliffs. Phra Nang Cave, a cave beach on the Railay side, can also be reached by boat. The Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), 14.6 km away, has a long staircase climbing the hillside, and Krabi International Airport is 18.3 km away.
A good day could start on Ao Nang Beach, continue by longtail boat to Railay or to Poda Island and Tup Island, and end at the night market. Boats for Railay and the islands leave from the piers along the beach. Boat trips can be disrupted by rough seas during the monsoon months.
