Lumphini MRT station is 350 m away and Khlong Toei MRT station is 650 m away, so the metro is the quickest way to cross the city from here. Siam Paragon, the large shopping centre of the Siam area, is 2.9 km away, and Jim Thompson House, the former home of the silk entrepreneur Jim Thompson, is 3.5 km away. The Grand Palace and the riverside temples lie in the old city, a longer ride by taxi.

For a full day out, pair Jim Thompson House with a walk and some shopping in the Siam area. Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the best-known markets in Bangkok, is much further out and is best saved for a morning of its own. In the evenings, the streets around Sathorn fill with restaurants and food stalls, so you rarely have far to go for a meal.
