The hostel is in Khaosan, the Banglamphu district of old Bangkok where Khaosan Road has grown into a busy backpacker street lined with guesthouses, street-food stalls and small shops. It is a lively and compact part of the city, and many of its best-known sights lie within walking distance, so much of the day can be spent on foot.
Khaosan Road is 650 m from the hostel. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) is 1.6 km away and The Grand Palace is 1.8 km away, while Wat Arun, on the far bank of the Chao Phraya river, is 2.5 km off. Wat Bowonniwet, a temple, is only a few hundred metres from the hostel, and Jim Thompson House, a teak residence with a collection of Thai art, is further out. Don Mueang International Airport is 20.1 km away and Suvarnabhumi Airport lies further still, so the longer distances are easier by taxi than on foot.
A good first day starts at the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, then crosses the river by boat to Wat Arun before returning to Khaosan. Give the palace complex most of the morning, since there is a lot to see. Chatuchak Weekend Market is further away and is best kept for a weekend visit, while Khaosan Road comes alive in the evening with its stalls and bars.
