Hostel De Kaya

The rooms at Hostel De Kaya are mostly dormitories with bunk beds, with one room that has a double bed. Sizes run from 20 to 30 m², and capacity from one to ten guests. Rooms can have air conditioning, blackout curtains, a desk, linens, a seating area and a balcony or terrace.

Some rooms overlook the city, and one has a separate living room. Rooms can also have a hair dryer, a mirror, a shower and toiletries, and bathrooms are either private or shared depending on the room.

The hostel has an outdoor swimming pool, a restaurant, a bar with happy hour, a coffee shop and room service, along with a shared lounge and TV area where guests can relax. The front desk and the security are staffed 24 hours, and a concierge, a shuttle service and a doctor or nurse on call are offered as well.

Daily housekeeping, laundry and ironing services are offered, and luggage storage and lockers are available for guests. Photocopying and fax are possible at the business centre, and free Wi-Fi covers all rooms and public areas. Parking on site is free. Guests can ask the concierge about local arrangements, and the shuttle service is offered alongside the 24-hour front desk.

Hostel De Kaya sits on Prannok Street in Ban Chang Lor, in the Bangkok Noi district on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River. The surroundings mix local markets, pagodas and hospitals, with a quieter pace than the tourist core on the other bank.

Phran Nok Market is a short walk from the hostel, and Wat Yang Suttharam is a pagoda in the same neighbourhood. Across the river, the Grand Palace is 1.8 km away, while Wat Arun, the riverside temple with its tall prang, is 1.9 km away on the Thonburi bank. Khaosan Road is 2.3 km away. For getting around, Thonburi Station is 650 m away and Fai Chai MRT Station is 750 m away, so rail links into the city are close.

A day out could start with the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, then continue to Wat Arun on the Thonburi side. Guests who drive can use the free parking on site, and in the evening Khaosan Road is the busy street to explore. The Steam Locomotive Depot is also close by, so the railway side of the area is worth a slow walk on a quiet afternoon.
