Wat Arun, the temple with its tall prang, sits across the river, while the Grand Palace is 4.2 km away in the old city. A good day here starts on the river: take a boat from one of the nearby piers to the old city, see the Grand Palace, cross to Wat Arun and come back by the same route. For a different pace, Chatuchak Weekend Market, 9.6 km away, is open at weekends, with its many stalls and food stands.
