Wat Phra Chetuphon, known for its giant reclining Buddha, is 1.4 km away, and Wat Arun, a riverside temple with a tall tiered tower, stands across the Chao Phraya river. The Bangkok National Museum is 400 m away, and Phra Pin Klao Pier, a river ferry stop, is 450 m away. The Chatuchak Weekend Market, a large weekend market, is a longer trip from here.

One day can start at the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, continue to Wat Phra Chetuphon, also called Wat Pho, then cross to Wat Arun by river boat, and end with a walk back along the streets to Khao San Road. Don Mueang airport is the closer of the two Bangkok airports and is reached by road, while the river piers offer a way to see the Chao Phraya from the water.
