Location & what to see
Chern Bangkok stands in the China Town area of Phra Nakhon, the old part of Bangkok where many of the city's historic temples and palaces are concentrated. The streets around the hostel are busy with small shops, and the Samran Rat Fresh Market is one of the local places to buy food. Because the old city is compact, it is easy to explore on foot, with the river, the temples and the museums all within a short distance of one another.
The Giant Swing (200 m) is one of the best-known monuments in the area, and Wat Suthat Thep Wararam Ratchaworamahawihan (300 m) is one of Bangkok's principal royal temples. The Grand Palace is 1.3 km away, with the Temple of the Emerald Buddha inside its walls, and Wat Arun, on the bank of the Chao Phraya River, is 1.8 km away. Sam Yot MRT Station and Wang Burapha station are both 500 m away, so public transport is close to the hostel.
A good day in the area could start at the Grand Palace and the temples around it, then continue to Wat Arun across the river. For a different kind of outing, Chatuchak Weekend Market is a longer trip across the city, and it is best kept for a day of its own. In the evening, the streets around the hostel are a good place for a walk past the food stalls.
