Rama IV Road is a major road through central Bangkok, and Chatel Samyan sits in the Siam area, where the rail lines, large shopping malls and the Chao Phraya riverside are close at hand. The area is busy through the day, with offices, hotels and shopping centres close together, and the river is a short taxi ride away.
Sam Yan MRT station is 400 m away and Sala Daeng BTS station is 1 km away, so the trains are the quickest way to reach the wider city. Sala Daeng is on the Silom line, which runs through the busy business district. Siam Paragon and MBK Center are close by, and Jim Thompson House, once home to the American silk entrepreneur who revived Thai silk, is 1.7 km away. Both stations make it easy to reach much of the city without a taxi.
A full day could begin at the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, both 4.2 km away, then continue to Khaosan Road in the old city for an evening walk. For a later evening on the water, Asiatique, the riverfront shopping and dining complex, is a good stop on the Chao Phraya. The Chatuchak Weekend Market is further out, and is best saved for a separate morning.
