Boxpackers Hostel Phranakorn

Boxpackers Hostel Phranakorn has mixed dormitories with bunk beds, a female-only dormitory, and private rooms with a double, queen or king bed. Several rooms look out over the city, and some have a private bathroom while others share one with other guests.

Several rooms have air conditioning, blackout curtains, linens and a reading light, and the bathrooms come with a shower, a hair dryer and toiletries. Towels and bathrobes are provided, and some rooms also have a TV with satellite or cable channels and streaming services such as Netflix. Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms, and the public areas have wireless internet too.

A 24-hour front desk is on site, with lockers and luggage storage. There is a laundry service, a laundromat and an ironing service, and daily housekeeping is provided. Tours can be arranged, and the hostel also has billiards and a terrace.

Food and drink are served at a bar and a coffee shop on the premises. The hostel has a family room and a business centre with xerox and fax services, and English and Thai are spoken.

Bicycle parking is available, and free Wi-Fi covers all rooms and public areas, with wireless internet in the public areas as well. Air conditioning is also in the public areas, and the front desk is staffed around the clock.

Boxpackers Hostel Phranakorn sits on Tanao Road in the Khaosan area of Phranakorn, the old-town district of Bangkok, close to the historic Rattanakosin district. Khaosan Road, a backpacker street known for its guesthouses, bars and street-food stalls, runs nearby, so the neighbourhood stays lively into the evening. Many of the sights of the old town are within walking distance, and the nearest public transport stop is Wang Burapha.

The Grand Palace is 950 m away, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) is 750 m from the hostel, inside the palace complex. Wat Phra Chetuphon, known as Wat Pho and home to a large reclining Buddha, is a short distance further on, and Wat Arun stands across the Chao Phraya river at 1.6 km. Further afield, the Jim Thompson House, a museum of Thai silk and art in a teak house, is 3.3 km away, and the Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the largest markets in Bangkok, is 7.4 km.

A day here can start at the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, continue by boat across the Chao Phraya to Wat Arun, and end on Khaosan Road in the evening. Chatuchak is best kept for a separate outing, since it is further out.
