Au Bon Hostel

Au Bon Hostel offers private rooms with a double bed, two single beds, a queen bed or two double beds, along with bunk beds in mixed and female dormitory rooms. Private rooms sleep up to three guests, and dormitory rooms sleep one guest in a bunk bed. Most of the private rooms have their own bathroom, and all the rooms have air conditioning.

Several rooms look over the city and one looks onto the street, and the dormitory rooms share a bathroom with a shower, toiletries and towels. The Junior Suite Family sleeps up to three guests, and the Superior Queen has a refrigerator, a desk and blackout curtains. Extra beds depend on the room you choose.

Guests can use a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, daily housekeeping and laundry service. Business facilities, cash withdrawal, a convenience store, a doctor or nurse on call and 24-hour security are also available, and the building has an elevator.

For getting around, tours and ticket services are available, along with a taxi service. There is on-site parking, Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms, and Wi-Fi also works in the public areas, while satellite and cable channels are offered too.

Pets are allowed, a family room is available, and English and Thai are spoken. The front desk is open around the clock, and the hostel also has billiards for guests to use.

Au Bon Hostel sits on Bunsiri Road in the Khaosan area of Phra Nakhon, the historic old city of Bangkok, where the Grand Palace was built in 1782 by King Rama I. By day visitors walk between the temples and palaces, and by evening the Khaosan area fills with street food stalls, bars and guesthouses, so the district mixes old temples with a lively backpacker scene.

Khaosan Road is 500 m away, and the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha are a short walk from the hostel, with the temple inside the palace grounds. Across the Chao Phraya river, Wat Arun is 1.5 km away and is reached by boat from the riverside piers. Wat Phra Chetuphon, the temple usually called Wat Pho, is also a short walk away and is known for its giant reclining Buddha. For the wider city, Sam Yot MRT Station is 1.1 km away, and the Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the largest markets in Thailand, is 7.5 km away.

A good day could begin at the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, continue to Wat Pho and the Bangkok National Museum, and then cross to Wat Arun by boat before a stroll back along Khaosan Road in the evening. Chatuchak is best saved for a separate trip, since it is further out.
