Both beaches are sandy, and the walk between them is short, and Kata Noi, a smaller stretch of sand, lies further along the same coast, and it is a quieter place to spend a sunny afternoon.

Big Buddha Phuket, the large white Buddha statue on a hilltop, is 1.4 km away, and Wat Chalong, one of the island's best-known temples, is 4.5 km. The Kata Walking Street night market is nearby, with food stalls and shops in the evening. Patong Beach, the island's best-known beach for nightlife, is 6.6 km away. Phuket International Airport is 31.6 km away, and the beaches and temples of the island are reached by road.

A full day could start with the sand at Kata Beach and continue to Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha in the afternoon. Patong Beach, 6.6 km away, is the place for a livelier night out, while the Kata Walking Street night market is the easier choice for the evening.
