Thalang is the district of Phuket that takes in the international airport, and Wanaburi Resort sits in a more rural part of it, away from the beach towns. Forested hills and waterfalls shape much of the landscape, and the roads and villages here feel less built-up than the resort strips of Patong and Karon. Phuket International Airport is 10.7 km away, and the main beaches are reached by road.

The closest sight is Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, 1.1 km away, where forest trails and waterfalls lead into the hills. Tonsai Waterfall is closer still, at 700 m, and the Gibbon Rehabilitation Center, 800 m away, cares for rescued gibbons. The Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, 3.7 km away, looks after rescued elephants, and the Thalang Victory Monument honours the two heroines who defended the district against an invading army.

For a day out, combine the national park with the elephant sanctuary and the gibbon centre. The Big Buddha, on a hilltop near Chalong, is a longer trip from the resort, while Patong Beach is the livelier option for an evening, though the drive is considerably longer. Patong's beach road is busy with street-food stalls, shops and bars, and it is a good place to end a day out.
