Villa Mar Koh Tao sits in the Mae Haad area of Ko Tao, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand known above all for diving and snorkelling, and it belongs to Surat Thani province. The property stands on a hill, so the sea view is part of the setting, and the surroundings mix a village, beaches and dive shops. Ko Tao has no airport: the nearest one, Samui Airport, is 64.6 km away on Koh Samui, and the island is reached by boat from the mainland and from Koh Samui.

Mae Haad beach is 350 m from the villa, and the Lomprayah Koh Tao Pier, the island's ferry terminal, is 600 m away. Sairee Beach, one of the island's best-known beaches, lies 1.3 km off, and Koh Nang Yuan, a small group of islets joined by sandbars, is 4.4 km away. Koh Nang Yuan is a popular day trip, with snorkelling around its shores.
