The Shambhala Khaolak Resort

The rooms at The Shambhala Khaolak Resort are bungalows and rooms set among gardens, including 30 m² bungalows and a 60 m² family room for up to six guests. Rooms can have air conditioning, a desk, a refrigerator, a shower and a balcony or terrace, depending on the room.

Garden views are offered in several of the rooms, and the bed set-ups range from a single bed to two king beds. Some rooms offer a choice of bed set-ups when you book. The Deluxe Single Room sleeps up to four guests, and the family rooms accommodate groups of four to six.

The Shambhala Khaolak Resort has an outdoor and an indoor swimming pool, massage treatments, a restaurant, a bar and room service. The private beach and the garden are part of the grounds.

The resort sits in the Bang Niang area of Khao Lak, on the Andaman coast of Phangnga province, a stretch known for its beaches and for diving trips. Bang Niang Beach is the nearest beach, 500 m away, and Khuk Khak Beach is also close by. The resort's own private beach is part of the grounds, so the sea is close at hand. The coast was badly hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and that history still shapes much of the area.

Around the resort are Bang Niang Market, a local market, and the International Tsunami Museum, 1.4 km away, which covers the 2004 disaster. Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, 5 km away, has forest trails and waterfalls, while Similan National Park, 10.8 km away, is reached by boat and is known for its islands, snorkelling and diving.

A good day plan is a boat trip to the Similan Islands, followed by an afternoon at the tsunami museum and the Bang Niang Market. Phuket International Airport, 62.7 km away, is the main gateway, and Khao Lak is reached by road from there. Boats to the Similan Islands leave from the coast, and the resort's pools and massage treatments make a good end to the day.
