Tara Inn is in the Ao Lo Dalam area of Ko Phi Phi, a limestone island in the Andaman Sea that is reached by boat from the mainland. The village of Ton Sai lies close by, between the bays of Ton Sai and Loh Dalum, and the paths and lanes around it lead down to the beaches and the piers. Staying on the village side keeps the main pier and the beaches under a kilometre away. Along these village lanes small shops, dive centres and noodle stalls sit side by side.
The Ton Sai Pier, the ferry terminal for boats to and from the mainland, is 500 m away, and Ton Sai Beach is 700 m. The Viewpoint 1 lookout is also 500 m away, while the Koh Phi Phi Viewpoint is 750 m. A small market for everyday needs is close by. Boats run from the pier to the bays and beaches around the island, including Monkey Beach and Long Beach.
A good first day could start at Viewpoint 1, continue down to Ton Sai Beach and the village market, and end with a boat trip to the bays. Tours can be arranged through the hostel for those who prefer a guided trip, and day trips can also be booked at the pier. In the rainy season the sea can be rough, which may affect boat trips to the more distant beaches.
