Location & what to see
Ao Nang is a beach village on the Andaman coast of Krabi province, with a seafront road lined with guesthouses, dive shops and small bars, and longtail boats leaving from the pier for the islands. It is a lively base for anyone who wants the sea close at hand, with the village's streets and food stalls close by.
Noppharathara Beach lies just a few dozen metres from the guesthouse, while Ao Nang Beach is 400 m away and Ao Nang Night Market, 350 m away, fills with food stalls in the evening. Railay Beach, 3.5 km away, is reached only by longtail boat, and its limestone cliffs make it one of the best-known excursions from the village. Tiger Cave Temple, 15.3 km away, is a hillside temple reached by a long stairway.
The obvious day out is on the water: a longtail boat from Ao Nang to Railay, or a day trip to the Hong Islands, which are reached by boat from the Krabi coast. Boat trips can be cut short when the sea is rough. Back in the village, the night market is the natural place to finish the day, and the beach stays within a few dozen metres of the guesthouse for a last swim before the evening.
