The rooms at Samthong Resort can have air conditioning, a desk, a mini bar, a refrigerator and free bottled water, and some have a balcony or terrace. The Superior Room has a city view and a balcony or terrace, and the VIP room sleeps up to five guests.

Samthong Resort sits in Chaweng, the liveliest part of Koh Samui's east coast, beside a long beach that draws many visitors to the island. Chaweng is known for its shopping, its beaches and its evening life. With a night market and a walking street nearby, the area is a practical base for a first visit to Koh Samui. Hotels, restaurants and shops line its streets, and it is busier than the quieter bays elsewhere on the island.

Wat Chaweng, a Buddhist temple, is 450 m from the resort, and Samui Airport (USM) is 2.6 km away. Fisherman's Village in Bophut, 2.9 km away, is an old fishing village turned into a walking street. Chaweng Noi Beach lies 3.1 km away, and the Big Buddha, a large hilltop statue, is 4.4 km away. An airport transfer is available from the resort.

A good day could start at the Big Buddha, then continue to Fisherman's Village in the evening to walk its street. Na Muang Waterfall lies further inland, so it makes a longer excursion from Chaweng, and Chaweng Yai Beach is also nearby, so the beaches are easy to reach. Samui Airport is the nearest airport, so the final leg of the trip is a short drive rather than a ferry crossing.
