Location & what to see
Baan Tai is a village on Ko Pha-ngan, an island in the Gulf of Thailand that is reached only by boat. The setting is quieter than the island's main town of Thong Sala, and the sea is never far from the grounds. A day here can mean a swim, a read in the garden and a walk along the coast before exploring further afield.
Around the resort, Wat Pra Yai is a pagoda within walking distance, 950 m away, and Wat Khao Tham, another pagoda, lies 1.1 km off, so temple visits are easy to fit into a day. Haad Baan Tai beach and the Night Market, an evening market with street food and local stalls, are both within a couple of kilometres, and the Ko Pha-ngan Pier, 2.5 km away, is the point where boats leave for the other islands, so it is also the place to start a day trip beyond Ko Pha-ngan.
For a longer day out, Thong Nai Pan Yai Beach, a popular beach with several resorts, is 9.3 km away. Samui Airport, on the neighbouring island of Ko Samui, is reached by ferry from Ko Pha-ngan, so the last part of the journey is by water. In the rainy months, boat services can be disrupted.
