Rawai is a fishing village in the south of Phuket, quieter than Patong, with a shoreline of beaches and a pier used by ferries to nearby islands. The streets around the village are lined with small shops and food stalls, and the pace is slower than in the island's busiest resort areas. Phuket Town, the island's main town, is a drive away, and the nearby streets have a local feel.

Nai Harn Beach, 1.8 km away, is the next sandy bay along the coast. The Big Buddha Phuket, 5.7 km away, is a large white statue on a hilltop, and Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong), 7.9 km away, is one of the most important temples on the island. Closer to the hotel, Rawai Park is 250 m away and the Phuket Seashell Museum is 900 m away.

A good day could start at the Big Buddha and Wat Chalong in the morning, then move to Nai Harn Beach in the afternoon, before returning to Rawai for a walk along the pier in the evening. Boat trips from the pier depend on the sea, which can be rougher during the monsoon months, and car hire is a practical way to reach the sights further afield.
