The main road itself is lined with shops and restaurants and runs through much of the city's east side, Ekkamai is a base close to the sky train for travellers who want to be near the centre without leaving the residential streets behind.

The fastest link into the city is Ekkamai BTS station, about 450 m away, on the Sukhumvit line that runs north and south through the city. Jim Thompson House, the teak house museum of the silk entrepreneur Jim Thompson, is 7.3 km away, and Chatuchak Weekend Market, the big weekend market in the north of the city, is 9.7 km away. Wat Arun and the Grand Palace stand on opposite banks of the Chao Phraya river, and both are reached from the villa by taxi or by the sky train and a short river crossing.

A good day could start at the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, then return east in the evening to the Soi 38 night market nearby, which has food stalls along the side of the soi, a relaxed end to a busy day.
