Location & what to see
Sairee is the main beach area on Ko Tao, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand that is reached by boat. Lucky House Koh Tao is about 550 m from Sairee Beach, so the sand and the sea are close by, and the village has a lively evening atmosphere along its main road. The island is well known for diving, and many dive courses are based in the village.
Several sights lie a short way off. Island Muay Thai is 1.3 km away, and Ao Tanot Bay, a quieter bay further along the island's coast, is 2.3 km away. Koh Nang Yuan, 2.9 km away, is a group of three small islets joined by sand, popular with snorkellers and day-trip boats. Longer trips around the island are usually made by songthaew or scooter, and the ferry pier is a longer ride away.
A good day here combines time on Sairee Beach with a boat trip to Koh Nang Yuan for snorkelling, or with a diving course from one of the schools in the village. The Top of the rock viewpoint, 900 m away, makes a good stop for the late afternoon. Ao Tanot Bay is a good choice for a quieter afternoon.
