Location & what to see
Khao Lak is a coastal area in Phangnga province on Thailand's Andaman coast, on the mainland rather than on an island, with a long stretch of beach and forested hills behind it. The resort is in the Haadson Beach area of Bang Muang, and the Andaman Sea is part of the view from some of its rooms. The coast around it mixes sandy beaches with small villages such as Ban Nam Khem.
Nam Kem Beach is 1.9 km away and Bangsak Beach is 4.2 km away, and the Baan Nam Kem Tsunami Memorial, a monument to the 2004 tsunami, is close by. The ferry terminal at Ban Nam Khem Pier is also nearby. Ton Chong Fa Waterfall is 20.9 km away, reached inland from the coast, and Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, with its forest and waterfalls, lies farther along the same road.
For a day out, the Similan Islands national park is reached by boat from the Khao Lak coast and is known for diving.
