Kewalin hostel is in the Ao Lo Dalam area of Ko Phi Phi, the island in Krabi province that has no airport and is reached by boat. The bays of Ton Sai and Loh Dalum lie either side of the isthmus, so the sea is never far from the hostel.
The Tsunami Building, a monument, is 250 m from the hostel, and Phi Phi Market is 300 m away. Loh Dalum Beach lies 550 m off, and the hilltop Koh Phi Phi Viewpoint, at 750 m, overlooks the isthmus and both bays. Ao Maya, the bay on the neighbouring island of Phi Phi Leh made famous by the film The Beach, is reached by boat from the island.
For a day out, the viewpoint is a good first stop, followed by Monkey Beach, which is 2 km away, or one of the boat trips to the islands around Phi Phi. The ferry pier at Ton Sai, for boats to and from the mainland, is also close to the hostel and is a useful point to know when you arrive. Many of these sights can be reached on foot from the hostel, while the islands around Phi Phi are reached by boat.
