Day trips from Khao Lak go to the offshore islands by boat and inland to forest waterfalls, so the nature of the coast and the hills is the main draw of the area, with the sea never far away from the resort.

Similan National Park is 3.5 km away, and its islands are reached by boat from the piers in the area. Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, 6.5 km away, has waterfalls and forest trails, and Ton Chong Fa Waterfall is 9.8 km away. The Tsunami Memorial is nearby, a reminder of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that struck this coast, and Phuket International Airport is 51.5 km away.

A full day could combine a boat trip to the Similan islands with a visit to the Sea Turtle Conservation Center, and a stop at the Khao Khai Nui Viewpoint on the hills above the coast. Visits to the Similan islands by boat are seasonal, as the national park closes for part of the year.
