Location & what to see
Feel Good Hostel stands on Phang Nga Road in Talat Yai, a district of old Phuket Town where Sino-Portuguese shophouses, temples and small museums sit close together. Narrow streets of old shophouses run back from the main roads, and the Thai, Chinese and Portuguese influences of the town are visible in its architecture. The area has a more local character than the beach strips on the west coast, and the old town's lanes are a short walk away.
The Baba Phuket Museum, 50 m away, shows the Peranakan culture that shaped the old town, and The Thavorn Museum is nearby as well. Wat Khao Rang Samakkhitham sits on a hill above the town, and on Sundays the Lard Yai walking street market, 150 m away, fills with food stalls and local crafts. Phuket International Airport is 26.9 km away, and Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong), 7.2 km away, is one of the island's most important Buddhist temples.
A good day could start with the museums and the temple on the hill, then an evening at the Sunday market if your stay falls on a Sunday. Patong Beach lies 10.5 km away on the west coast, so it is best kept for a separate day. Because the hostel is in town rather than on the sand, evenings are spent in the old town's streets, and the local bus station is close by for trips further afield.
What guests say
Travellers rate the location most highly (8.9), followed by the value for money (8.7) and the service (8.5), all of them strong scores for a hostel in the old town.
