The town's markets, including the Talad Kaset fresh market, offer a mix of local goods and street food. It has a local, lived-in feel that is quite different from the beach resorts on the west coast.

The Phuket Town Local Bus Station is 700 m away. Thalang Road, 1.4 km away, is known for its Sunday walking street market, and the Phuket Trickeye Museum is 1 km away. Chaithararam Temple, known as Wat Chalong, is one of the island's best-known temples and lies 8.4 km away, while Patong Beach is 11.8 km away on the west coast.

A good day starts with a walk through the old town to Sansook Temple, then an afternoon browsing the shops on Thalang Road before the evening market. Sunday is the day to go, since the walking street market fills the road. For the beaches and the temples further out, a taxi or a rental car is the easiest way to get around, because Patong is a long way from the old town.
