CBD 2 Hotel is in Surat Thani, the provincial capital on the Tapee River in southern Thailand. The town is a practical base rather than a beach resort, with a working centre of shops, markets, temples and riverside walks. The hotel is in the Talad area, and many of the sights below are close by.
Within a few hundred metres you will find the Surat Thani City Pillar Shrine, the Night Market and the Tapee River Viewpoint, a lookout over the water. Wat Dai Dhammaram, a Buddhist temple with a pagoda, is also close, and Wat Phothawas is about 1.5 km away. Surat Thani Airport is 19.6 km from the hotel, and the railway station is also in the town.
In the late afternoon, walk down to the Tapee River viewpoint, then head to the Night Market for food from the stalls. The ferries to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao leave from the Surat Thani area, so the islands are reached by boat rather than by road. Back in town, the railway stations and the bus terminal make it easy to continue by train or bus to other parts of southern Thailand, and the Tapee River lookout is a good place to end the day.
