The historic park, a UNESCO World Heritage site covering the ruins of the old royal city, is the main draw, and most of its sights are a short walk or a short ride away.

Wat Chaiwatthanaram, known for its Khmer-style prang on the riverbank, is 950 m away, and Wat Kasattrathirat Worawihan is 150 m away. Pom Phet Fortress, the old royal fortress, and Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, once the royal temple inside the palace grounds, are both within the historic park. The Ayutthaya Train Station is 4.1 km away, and trains from Bangkok stop there.

A good day starts with the temples of the historic park, which are best explored on foot or by bicycle, and bicycle rental is offered at the property. In the afternoon, the Ayothaya Floating Market & Elephant Village lies further out of town, and the riverbank near Wat Chaiwatthanaram is a good place to watch the boats on the Chao Phraya. Walks along the river at the end of the day are a simple way to finish.
