Aura Koh Tao is in Sairee, the main beach strip of Ko Tao, an island in the Gulf of Thailand that is well known for diving. The hotel is a 7-minute walk from Sairee Beach, and the beach road runs along a long curve of sand lined with dive schools and guesthouses, so the sea is part of the daily routine.
Around the hotel, the island's bays are the main draw. Ao Tanot Bay is 2.1 km away, a rocky bay popular with snorkellers, and Koh Nang Yuan, at 3.2 km, is a small island reached over sandbars at low tide, with a well-known viewpoint. The Koh Tao ferry pier is 1.5 km away and is the link with the mainland, so the last part of any journey to the island is by boat, and the pier is the point of departure for most boat trips from the island.
