A day out can begin at the Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of Bangkok's largest markets and busiest at weekends, and continue to the temples of Rattanakosin, the old royal quarter of the city. The Grand Palace is the former royal residence that houses the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and Wat Arun, with its tall prang tower, stands on the opposite bank of the Chao Phraya river from it.
