Wat Arun, the tall riverside temple, is 1.9 km away on the far bank of the Chao Phraya River, and several ferry piers on the river lie within about 800 m, so boats are a practical way to cross.

A good day here starts on foot: walk to The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in the morning, then cross the river by ferry to Wat Arun. The big shopping centres of Siam, including Siam Paragon and MBK Center, are further across the city and reached by taxi or the rail network, while the Chatuchak Weekend Market is further out again and works better as a separate day. The evenings on Khaosan Road are the lively part of the day.
