Kata is a bay on the Andaman coast of Phuket, with a wide sandy beach lined by hotels, small restaurants and shops. The bay is quieter than Patong, the island's busiest beach resort, and it is popular with surfers who come for the waves. The beach road has street-food stalls and small shops, typical of the island's beach areas.
Karon Beach is the next long stretch of sand along the bay, 1.8 km away. The Big Buddha sits on a hilltop 2.2 km from the hotel, with wide views over the island. Chaithararam Temple, better known as Wat Chalong, is one of Phuket's main Buddhist temples, and Phuket International Airport is 33.1 km away.
