The neighbouring beaches of Kata and Karon are also nearby, so the sea is never far away, and the island's southern side offers a quieter alternative to the nightlife of Patong.

Chalong Beach is 2.6 km away, and Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong), 5.5 km away, is one of the most important temples on the island. Big Buddha Phuket sits on a hilltop and is one of the island's best-known landmarks. Rawai Pier, 3.1 km away, is where boats leave for the nearby islands. A car or scooter is the easiest way to reach the beaches and temples, and the on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward. Phuket International Airport, the nearest airport, is 34.7 km away.

A good day could start at Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong), continue to Chalong Beach, and finish at the Rawai fish market, which is only a short distance from Rawai Pier. In the rainy season the sea can be rough, and boat trips from Rawai Pier may be cancelled.
