V VAREE Bangkok

Banglamphu, the neighbourhood of guesthouses, old shophouses and temples, is a short distance away, and Phra Sumen Fort and the riverside Santichaiprakan Park are close by. Many of the sights here can be reached on foot or by river.

Khaosan Road is 700 m away, a lively street of guesthouses, street food and bars. The Grand Palace is 1.8 km away, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) sits inside the same royal complex. Wat Arun, the riverside temple with its tall, tiered prang, lies across the river, and the Rama 8 Bridge pier is nearby for river ferries. Don Mueang Airport is 20.2 km away and Suvarnabhumi Airport is 28.7 km.

A good day could start at the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, cross the river to Wat Arun by ferry, and end with a walk along Khaosan Road. Ferries run along the Chao Phraya and link several piers, including the one at Rama 8 Bridge, so the river is a useful way to move between sights. The old lanes of Banglamphu are also good for exploring on foot between temples.
