Phuket International Airport is 2.9 km away, and Maikhao Beach, at the end of the airport runway, is known for planes flying low overhead. A car or scooter is the easiest way to reach the wider island, as the main resort areas are a longer drive away.

A relaxed day could begin with a swim at Naiyang Beach and a visit to Wat Mongkonwaram, a Buddhist temple in the local area. Later, the Sunset viewpoint is a good spot to watch the light fade over the coast, and Ni Yang Night Market is an easy stop for dinner. For a longer outing, Phuket FantaSea, a cultural theme park with a show, is further afield and makes a full evening. Bigger sights such as the Big Buddha are a longer drive away, so most days here are spent between the beach and nearer places like the market and the viewpoint.
