Phloen Chit BTS station is 700 m away, and the Sukhumvit line of the skytrain runs from there to much of the city. Siam Paragon, a large shopping centre, is 1.9 km away, and Jim Thompson House, the former home of the American silk entrepreneur, is a museum of teak buildings a little further off. Taxis are the simplest way to reach the riverside sights from here.

A day out could start at the Grand Palace, 6.3 km away, whose grounds hold the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Phra Kaew, and then continue to Wat Arun, which lies across the river, so the crossing by boat becomes part of the outing. The Chatuchak Weekend Market is a longer trip to the north, so it suits a separate morning rather than a stop on the way back from the old town.
