Life here happens on the pavement, with shophouses opening onto the street and food carts set up along the lanes, so the area feels busy rather than residential.

Wat Mangkon MRT station is 350 m away and Hua Lamphong railway station is 850 m, so the metro and trains are close at hand for the rest of the city. Wat Chaiyaphummikaram, a pagoda on the Chinatown lanes, is the closest temple. The Grand Palace is about 2.2 km away, Wat Arun lies across the river, and Khaosan Road is about 2.5 km off.

A good day starts with the temples on foot, then continues along the lanes back to Yaowarat Road, where the food stalls are the main draw in the evening. The lanes off Yaowarat Road, including Trok Itsaranuphap, are the easiest way to find the evening street food. Yaowarat Road is also the simplest starting point for a walk through the lanes and back to the metro.
