For sightseeing, Jim Thompson House is a museum in a traditional Thai house, the Chatuchak Weekend Market is 8 km away and the Grand Palace is 10.3 km away, while Wat Arun, a temple on the bank of the Chao Phraya river, is a little further.

A full day could start at the Grand Palace and continue with Wat Arun, reached by boat along the river, with the temples on the opposite bank close to the water. Chatuchak is open on Saturdays and Sundays only, so a weekend visit suits the market best. Back in the Sukhumvit area, the evening is spent in the lanes near the station, where small shops, massage shops and street-food stalls line the side streets and the main road.
