Bang Rak Market and Assumption Cathedral, a Catholic church in the neighbourhood, are a short walk away, and Oriental Pier by the river is a short walk from the cathedral, so the riverside is easy to explore on foot. Wat Arun, the temple on the Thonburi bank of the river, is one of the sights reachable by boat.

A day could begin at the Grand Palace, 4.2 km away, where the Temple of the Emerald Buddha stands inside the complex, and end at Asiatique The Riverfront, 2.4 km away, a riverside night market and shopping complex. Jim Thompson House, a museum in a traditional teak house, is also a short ride away for a half-day visit, and Wat Pho, with its reclining Buddha, lies in the same part of the old city as the Grand Palace.
