Sang Ngern Resort is in Nakhon Sawan, a provincial town in central Thailand where the Chao Phraya river begins. The town is set on the flat central plain, and the Chao Phraya flows south from here past Bangkok. Its streets mix local neighbourhoods, temples and riverside markets, and the pace of life here is slower than in the big cities further south.

The Nakhonsawan Train Station is 950 m away, the closest public transport in the area. Wat Nong Pling, a Buddhist temple 1.4 km away, is one of several temples in the area, and Wat Subannaram is also nearby. Khao Buat Nak, a hill 3.5 km away, rises above the flat plain, and the viewpoint at the origin of the Chao Phraya river, 4.3 km away, marks the point where the Ping and Nan rivers meet. The Cultural Hall of Nakhon Sawan, a museum, covers the history and culture of the province.

A good day out starts at the river viewpoint, then continues to the Cultural Hall and the riverside market, before a swim or a session at the spa back at the resort. Other temples and the riverside market are also within the town, so there is plenty to see without travelling far from the resort.
