The neighbourhood is lively and popular with travellers, with small streets of guesthouses, food stalls and massage shops.

Khaosan Road, the best-known street of the area, is 650 m away and fills with bars and restaurants in the evening. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) is 1.6 km away and The Grand Palace is 1.8 km away, both in the old royal quarter. Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn on the Chao Phraya riverbank, is 2.6 km away, and a ferry pier at Phra Arthit is nearby for river trips.

A good day here starts with the temples: the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in the morning, then a boat trip across the river to Wat Arun in the afternoon. Jim Thompson House, a teak house and garden museum of the American silk pioneer, makes a good stop after the temples. Chatuchak Weekend Market, 6.5 km away, is a longer trip for weekend shopping. In the evening, Khaosan Road is the place to eat and drink, with its bars and street stalls.
