The historic sights are the main draw. The Grand Palace is 1.1 km away, and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew), 950 m away, is within its walls. The Democracy Monument stands nearby on Ratchadamnoen Avenue. Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, lies across the Chao Phraya river and is best reached by ferry. For transport, the Sam Yot MRT station is 1 km away.

A day here can start early at the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, then move on to the riverside temples, or cross the river for Wat Arun. In the afternoon, the Democracy Monument and the Sanam Luang field are worth a walk. Don Mueang International Airport is 20.8 km away, and Suvarnabhumi Airport is further still. Sanam Luang is an open field opposite the Grand Palace, a good place for a stroll.
