Sam Yan MRT station is 150 m from the hotel on the Blue Line, and Sala Daeng BTS station is nearby on the Silom Line, so the metro and skytrain are a practical way to get around. The Grand Palace is 4.7 km away in the old city, and Wat Arun, also 4.7 km away, sits on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. Wat Phra Chetuphon, home of the giant reclining Buddha, is also in the old city, and Jim Thompson House, a traditional teak house full of Thai art, is also in the area.

Taxis connect Silom with the old city, and the river is a scenic way to link the two sides of the city. A day could begin with the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, then return to Silom for dinner and the night stalls around Patpong. Chatuchak Weekend Market is a longer trip and works better as a day out of its own.
