Ao Nang is a busy beach town on the Andaman coast of Krabi province, with limestone cliffs rising behind the bay and a seafront lined with tour offices, massage shops and street-food stalls. The town's energy is most visible along the sand and the road beside it, and the streets are short enough that the beach is easy to reach on foot from most places. Most of the town's life runs between the beach, the seafront road and the piers that serve the islands, so the sea shapes most days here.

Ao Nang Beach is 2.7 km from the home, and Railay Beach, 3.5 km away, is reached mostly by longtail boat from the piers rather than by road. The boat ride passes limestone cliffs, which is much of the appeal. Phra Nang Cave sits on the Railay peninsula, and boats for Poda Island, a limestone island offshore, also leave from Ao Nang.

A day could start on Ao Nang Beach, continue by boat to Railay or Poda Island, and end with a visit to Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), 12.6 km away, a hillside temple reached by a long staircase. In the rainy season, rough seas can disrupt boat trips to the islands.
