The metro is the simplest way to reach the wider city without relying on taxis. The main sights are on the other side of the river, with Wat Arun, the temple with its tall prang, 4.8 km away, and the Grand Palace 4.1 km away in the old city.

A full day could start at the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, then move on to Khaosan Road, 3.3 km away, for the evening. Khaosan has a busy mix of street food, bars and night stalls, and the riverside is a good place to end the day.
